USEFUL INFORMATION
AIRPORTS:
Tongatapu, Fua’amotu International Airport.

BANK & EXCHANGE:
The main commercial banks are the Westpac Bank of Tonga, MBF and ANZ. The Westpac Bank of Tonga has branches on Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai and Eua, while MBF and ANZ have branches on Tongatapu and Vava'u. Opening hours are 9am-4pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am-11.30am on Saturdays.

CLIMATE:
From December to April, the weather is hot and humid, with considerable rainfall. The cool dry season, with average temperatures of up to 22 degrees Celsius, runs from May to November. Tradewinds blowing during this season makes for pleasant days and cool nights.

CURRENCY:
The Tongan dollar or pa'anga equals 100 sentiti (cents).

CUSTOMS:
You may bring two litres of liquor and two cartons of cigarettes into Tonga duty free. Firearms, ammunition, explosives, drugs and indecent publications of any kind are prohibited.

DEPARTURE TAXES:
T$25 payable at the airport.

DRESS:
Casual attire is suitable for most occasions (long pants and shirt for men, a long dress or skirt and modest top for women). Brief shorts and bathing suits should not be worn in public by either men or women.

ELECTRICITY:
240 volts.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Visits of up to 30 days require a valid passport and an onward ticket. To extend your stay, permission must be requested from the principal immigration officer. Visas are required for some nationalities.

RELIGION:
The official church of Tonga is the Free Wesleyan Church, headed by the King. Other denominations include Methodist, Church of England, Roman Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist and Mormon. Sunday is a day of rest devoted to church activities, and all shops are closed – however certain restaurants are open for tourists as well as limited tours which must be pre-booked.
